Perplexity Portable Computer Arrives on Windows With NVIDIA RTX

Perplexity has launched its local Portable Computer agent on Windows for NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB of VRAM.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Perplexity Portable Computer is now available in the Windows app for GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with at least 24GB of VRAM.
  • Local tasks execute on-device using models such as Qwen 3.8 27B and do not consume Perplexity Computer credits.
  • Integrated connectors link the local agent with Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub.

NVIDIA announced that Perplexity has launched Portable Computer on Windows, bringing its local multistep AI agent to NVIDIA GeForce RTX PCs and NVIDIA RTX PRO Workstations. The release expands on previous deployments for Linux systems and NVIDIA DGX Spark hardware.

Portable Computer carries out multistep workflows locally, analyzing files and handling recurring tasks directly on the machine. Running tasks locally keeps sensitive files on the device and does not consume Perplexity Computer cloud credits. For higher-level reasoning, the agent can hand off tasks to cloud models, but requests user permission before transferring data off the computer.

The Windows software package includes a built-in browser and Perplexity's proprietary SPACE sandbox. Perplexity provides local models like Qwen 3.8 27B, which are post-trained for Computer and tuned for RTX GPUs so users do not need to configure model software stacks manually.

The application links into daily workflows through connectors for Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub. In engineering tasks, the agent reviews GitHub pull requests and flags outdated documentation. In financial tasks, it parses tax returns and brokerage statements to trace recurring fees without sending records to external chatbots. For startups, it analyzes onboarding funnel data to identify signup drop-offs and posts the summary directly to Slack.

NVIDIA requires a GeForce RTX or RTX PRO GPU with at least 24GB of VRAM to run Portable Computer on Windows. The chipmaker noted that support for NVIDIA DGX Station hardware is expected to follow.
