Apple on Tuesday unveiled its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, Ars Technica reported. The notebook starts at $1,999 and comes in space black and silver finishes. It delivers up to 24 hours of battery life alongside support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity.
The M6 chip features a 12-core CPU with what the company calls the world’s fastest CPU core, paired with a 12-core GPU. Compared with the prior M5 chip, the new processor provides up to 30% faster graphics performance and handles AI workloads up to 25% faster. Apple said the M6 delivers up to 13 times the LLM prompt-processing speed of the M1 MacBook Pro and up to 1.3 times the performance of the M5 model.
The laptop includes 16GB of unified memory in its base configuration, configurable up to 32GB, with memory bandwidth reaching up to 170GB/s compared to 153GB/s on the M5. It features a 12-megapixel camera, an HDMI port, a MagSafe 3 charging port, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack. When paired with a compatible high-wattage USB-C power adapter, the notebook supports fast charging up to 50% in 30 minutes.
The updated iMac also adopts the M6 processor, starting at $1,499. It features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, an advanced camera and audio system, up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, color-matched accessories, and macOS 27. The desktop integrates Neural Accelerators into every core, delivering up to five times faster on-device AI performance than the M4 model. Available colors include blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver.
Customers can place preorders for both the MacBook Pro and the iMac starting October 28, ahead of retail availability on November 6. The releases follow Monday's introduction of a new iPad mini and come one day prior to Apple's scheduled “Pro and Tell” event on Wednesday.
