Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across teams working on Siri and the Vision Pro headset, TechCrunch and The Verge reported. The cuts include largely shutting down a Vision Pro gaming group and reducing the size of the team that makes immersive content for the device.
The company told Bloomberg in a statement that it made the staffing changes to evolve its business to deliver the best experiences for users, though it will create new roles. Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment from The Verge.
The Vision Pro launched in early 2024 for $3,499 as Apple's bet on spatial computing. Apple updated the device last year with an M5 chip, and Bloomberg reported in May that the company is developing a slimmer and lighter successor. A few weeks later, Apple suspended work with Samsung Display on a display for an entry-level XR machine.
Apple is also planning smart glasses following the success of Meta's smart glasses. Bloomberg reported that Apple aims to announce the smart glasses at WWDC in 2027—an event typically held in June—and launch them before the end of that year.
Software teams previously unveiled a revamped, AI-powered Siri at this year's WWDC. Apple plans to make the new Siri available to the public in beta later this year.
