Google announced a series of artificial intelligence updates from May 2026, detailing new model deployments, Search integrations, and hardware developments.
The company introduced Gemini 3.5, a model built for multi-step agentic workflows and coding. Google also launched Gemini Omni, a model that combines images, audio, video, and text inputs to generate video grounded in real-world knowledge.
Search and software updates
Google expanded Search with its largest search box upgrade in over 25 years. The platform now features background information agents that monitor web data continuously and send updates with direct links. Search also incorporates Antigravity and Gemini 3.5 Flash coding capabilities, allowing users to build custom interfaces, interactive visuals, dashboards, and mini apps such as fitness trackers directly within search results.
For mobile devices, Google introduced Android Halo, a phone space that displays agent progress without interrupting active applications. The updated Gemini app features a revised interface, personalized daily briefs, and Gemini Spark to manage inboxes and schedule appointments. Google also launched Universal Cart, a central shopping hub that aggregates items across Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail.
Hardware and health devices
Google revealed the Googlebook, a laptop experience designed specifically for Gemini Intelligence. Hardware partners Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo will manufacture the laptops, which include a Magic Pointer feature, custom widgets, and cross-device connectivity with Android phones. Google also showcased upcoming intelligent eyewear frames designed for navigation, messaging, and photography.
In personal health, Google launched the Google Health app alongside the Fitbit Air, a pebble-shaped health tracker. The tracker measures heart rate, heart rhythm with atrial fibrillation alerts, blood oxygen levels, heart rate variability, and sleep metrics. On Android Automotive platforms, Gemini updates bring conversational voice controls, proactive routing, and expanded entertainment options.
Science and environmental programs
Google launched the Research Program at the Intersection of Life Sciences & Quantum AI, committing $10 million to five universities to combine quantum science and AI. The company also introduced Gemini for Science and detailed applications for its AlphaEvolve platform across supply chain management, chip design, molecular simulation, and power grid operations.
For environmental efforts, the company established the Google DeepMind Accelerator program in the Asia Pacific region to support climate and energy startups. Google also expanded content transparency verification tools across Search, Gemini, Chrome, Pixel, and Cloud. Additionally, Google Flow Music partnered with Believe to provide creative AI tools for music production, while a integration of Project Genie and Street View enables 3D simulations of real-world places within web browsers.
