European Cities Deploy NVIDIA AI Agents for Urban Operations

Municipal authorities across Europe are adopting NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI models to run digital twins, traffic analysis, and public services.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Department of Côte-d’Or deployed AI agents across more than 500 public buildings, cutting operating costs by 10% with a 30% long-term target.
  • Municipal trials and deployments are underway in Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
  • Hardware builders including Cisco, Dell Technologies, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro are assembling local AI factory systems for municipal data processing.

NVIDIA announced that municipal authorities across Europe and the wider EMEA region are deploying its accelerated computing systems to run physical artificial intelligence agents and digital twins for urban operations.

Software developers including Akila, Galene AI, K2K, ThinkDeep, and Milestone are building tools using NVIDIA's Cosmos and Nemotron open models alongside the Omniverse platform and the Metropolis Blueprint for video search and summarization. NVIDIA said active projects span Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Regional deployments

French authorities in the Department of Côte-d’Or partnered with Akila and ThinkDeep to install operations agents across more than 500 public buildings. Running on Nemotron and Omniverse, the deployment reduced document search times from weeks to minutes and cut operating costs by 10%, with planners targeting a 30% reduction at scale. At Port Sud de France in Sète, ThinkDeep deployed an agentic platform using Cosmos and Nemotron to coordinate cargo movements and monitor the handling of hazardous materials. Across the border at Belgium's Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Milestone and Dell Technologies are testing Cosmos and vision models trained on synthetic data to issue oil-spill alerts.

British public bodies are exploring urban monitoring applications with software provider K2K. The Liverpool City Region is evaluating AI systems for mobility and safety, Innovation City Belfast is planning a transport and event response pilot, and the Island of Jersey is using the technology for urban planning and clean energy projects. In Italy, Galene.AI, Dell Technologies, and TD Synnex are installing an AI factory in Cinisello Balsamo to handle citizen chatbots, real-time translation, and procurement paperwork, with plans to expand the service across four neighboring municipalities.

Infrastructure and rollout

Gothenburg officials in Sweden are working with developer Younite AI under the European Union's Citiverse project, using NVIDIA Omniverse libraries to generate digital twin simulations that show crowd conditions, seating, and venue entrance previews. In the Middle East, Honeywell Technologies is running its Forge Cognition platform at the Dubai Fairmont Hotel, using Nemotron, Cosmos, and Omniverse to link software agents to physical building equipment.

Hardware manufacturers Cisco, Dell Technologies, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro are packaging NVIDIA processors, networking, and storage into on-premises systems designed to keep municipal data inside local jurisdictions. Cloud infrastructure providers Nebius and Net Zero Compute are building hosting capacity for the services, while consultancies Accenture and EY are handling software integration. NVIDIA and its partner network will exhibit the municipal AI systems at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, which runs from Nov. 3-5.
