Google announced new community investments in Virginia on June 11, 2026, aimed at expanding energy affordability, supporting thousands of local jobs, and preparing the state's next-generation workforce. The technology company has operated in Virginia for more than a decade, maintaining a regional office in Reston along with data center sites across Loudoun County and Prince William County.
To support skilled jobs driven by infrastructure growth throughout the Commonwealth, Google is providing funding to the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA). The financial contribution will directly support local electrical apprenticeship training facilities across the state. With this new support, the electrical training ALLIANCE aims to expand its total training capacity to accommodate an additional 2,741 apprentices by 2030.
The grant builds on Google's existing local programs and forms part of a broader national commitment from Google.org. That national initiative aims to prepare more than 300,000 skilled tradespeople across the country.
Alongside workforce development, Google addressed its regional energy footprint as it builds out local data centers. The company reported that it has invested in more than 500 megawatts of new energy capacity in Virginia, collaborating with external partners to deliver additional power to the electrical grid.
At the local level, Google is launching a $15 million Energy Impact Fund designed to lower monthly utility bills for residents. The fund will allocate money toward critical community projects, including home repairs, weatherization, and energy-efficiency upgrades for homes in the state. Google did not specify when local organizations can begin applying for funding under the $15 million initiative.
