John Ternus took the stage on Wednesday for his first Apple product launch since succeeding Tim Cook as chief executive, TechCrunch reported. The presentation marked the first time in more than a decade that Apple opened a product showcase with a new leader at the helm. Ternus received a standing ovation from the audience as he began the address.
“First of all, thank you, it is great to be here,” Ternus said as he opened the event. He noted that he was excited about Apple's future before previewing the forthcoming product reveals to the crowd. “I think you’re gonna like what you’re gonna see,” he said. The introductory remarks provided an early view of how Ternus plans to present himself while steering the company in a role defined by Cook.
Prior to his promotion, Ternus spent more than two decades at Apple as a product executive. His work at the company spanned both the Steve Jobs and Cook eras. Following the transition, Cook will continue on as executive chairman of Apple’s board.
The elevation of Ternus arrives amid a broader changing of the guard at Apple following a steady exodus of longtime executives. He assumes leadership as Apple faces some of its most consequential challenges in years. Apple is racing to prove it can compete in artificial intelligence, while navigating RAM shortages and an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
During the presentation, Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking its first foldable device. The company also announced the iPhone 18, the iPhone 18 Pro, and the 18 Pro Max.
