New York City educators and tech executives gathered at Google’s offices on July 1, 2026, for an AI summit organized alongside the New York Jobs CEO Council and Urban Assembly. Google reported that the event brought together 150 education and industry leaders to discuss how artificial intelligence can prepare students for future careers.
Participants took part in hands-on sessions and live demonstrations to examine tools designed to build digital literacy. Educators explored applications including NotebookLM and Google AI mode, alongside dedicated sessions such as aiEDU’s “Vibe Coding” workshop, a vibe coding breakout discussion, and Google’s “Meet LEA” presentation. The conference also featured a real-time demonstration of Google Search Live.
Tequila Lamar of Google opened the summit with introductory remarks. Urban Assembly Chief Executive Officer David Adams later moderated a fireside chat featuring NYC Public Schools Chief of Student Pathways Jane Martínez Dowling and Google’s Steven Butschi, who shared industry perspectives on classroom technology.
Industry leaders at the gathering stressed that problem-solving remains the core benefit of integrating AI tools into education. Speakers noted that as automation streamlines routine workplace tasks, human skills such as adaptability, collaboration, and critical judgment become increasingly essential. Attendees reached a consensus that educational technology must maintain strict standards for privacy and equitable access while ensuring innovation develops directly with schools.
Google did not state whether the summit will become an annual event or provide specific rollout dates for the tools across the NYC public school system.
