Google DeepMind launched an environmental accelerator program in the Asia-Pacific region on May 17, 2026, targeting climate risks with artificial intelligence. The inaugural initiative, titled "AI for the Planet," offers a three-month curriculum for eligible organizations across the region.
Dr. Ramine Tinati, Director of the Google DeepMind Impact Accelerator in APAC, announced the initiative to address growing regional climate vulnerabilities. Google DeepMind stated that while Asia Pacific remains a global engine for economic growth, it is highly vulnerable to climate change. Although green technologies are gaining momentum, a recent report showed they are not scaling fast enough to keep up with rising environmental risks.
Startup teams, research groups, and nonprofits across APAC are eligible to join the three-month program. Participants will use frontier AI to tackle challenges in nature, climate, agriculture, energy, and related fields. Selected organizations will work with Google AI experts to integrate frontier AI and science AI models directly into their projects or products.
An in-person bootcamp in Singapore will kick off the program. Selected organizations will receive expert mentorship and tailored support from Google AI experts throughout the duration of the initiative. Google DeepMind opened registration today for organizations focused on scaling climate solutions. Google DeepMind did not specify the total number of participants it intends to select for the cohort.
